Henri II Plantagenêt
Henri II Plantagenêt

1189

Abandoned by his children who he was unable to associate with his power, ill and fleeing from Philip Augustus, Henry II Plantagenet died in the royal fortress of Chinon in 1189.

Accompanied by Geoffroy, an illegitimate son but the only one who remained faithful to him, the body was transported to the abbey of Fontevraud to be buried.

Richard, finally king, came to quickly say goodbye to the body of his father, for form. Fontevraud became the necropolis of the Plantagenets: Eleanor of Aquitaine and Richard the Lionheart would also be buried there.
