In the vicinity
On a rocky spur, the high towers of the enclosure overlook the medieval town, the waters of the Vienne and the green landscapes of the valley.
The medieval town bears the traces of this prestigious past. The town of Chinon, Town of Art and History, and its museum Le Carroi complete the discovery of an exceptional heritage, inherited from the Middle Ages. At nightfall, discover the lighting of the Royal Fortress of Chinon.
The site benefits from an exceptional view of the Loire Valley, classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. To the north, the panorama of the plateau invites you to take a look at another of the treasures of the Chinon region: its vineyards, whose praises were already sung by Rabelais.
Benefiting from an exceptional environment, many activities are available near the Fortress: visit to wine cellars, boat trip on the Vienne river, hiking or biking in the heart of the vineyards.
The Indre-et-Loire Departmental Council, owner of the fortress, has other museums and monuments.
The Priory of Saint-Cosme
The Balzac Museum
The Rabelais Museum
The Royal Town of Loches
The Museum of Prehistory at Grand Pressigny

The Fortress is located in the heart of the Loire Anjou Touraine Regional Nature Park.
