Attack and defence of a castle in the Middle Ages

Discover the military architecture of a castle. With which war engines is a castle defended? What are the machicolations for? Why are the arrow slits so narrow? What happens during a siege?...

Students will practice shooting with a trebuchet and a mangonel, reproductions of war engines from the 13th century.

  • Audience: Study cycle 2 (CE2) - Study cycle 3 - Study cycle 4 (up to 5th)
  • Duration: 1h15 (allow an extra 1 hour for the self-guided tour of the royal dwellings and towers)
  • Price: until 31 January 2025: €2.50 per pupil; from 1 February 2025: €4 per pupil (including entrance fee).

 Construction in the Middle Ages

Immerse yourself in a medieval construction site.

What did they measure with in the Middle Ages? Did cranes exist? And scaffolding?... From the master builder to the roofer, you will find out everything about building a castle!
