At the start of 2026, the Clock Tower is hosting the photography exhibition Gold in their hands.
Gold in their hands is an exhibition paying tribute to the artisans of Chinon and Touraine, who work with gold in all its forms: gold leaf, gold beads, vermeil objects, and more. Between heritage restoration and contemporary creation, they embody the richness of the arts and crafts: frame gilder, goldsmith, visual artist and jewellery designer, art restorer.
Through the lens of photographer Christophe Raimbault, discover the daily lives of these four artisans, the beauty of their craft and their sensitivity to the material. The photographer was as interested in their hands as in their faces, as much in the light of the gold as in the light that emanates from human beings. This exhibition is also the result of the alchemy of the ingredients that make these encounters so precious. The welcome, the listening, the interest, the trust: so many elusive aspects that the photographer has managed to capture in images:
‘I enjoyed meeting these artisans and being immersed in their workshops, among the smells, the atmospheres, the creations. You have to see these artisans, artists in their craft, working with their hands.’
