Exhibition: ‘In the Footsteps of Joan of Arc in Chinon’

Saturday 30 May, book signing

In 1425, Joan was thirteen years old when she received from the Council of her Voices the main thrust of her mission: to lift the siege of Orléans, to have Charles VII crowned in Reims, and to drive the English out of France!
A few years later, in 1429, she crossed the kingdom torn apart by the Hundred Years’ War to meet the Dauphin Charles. This famous episode took place at the Fortress of Chinon. It is generally described as a legendary scene and marked a decisive turning point in the Hundred Years’ War.

To mark the publication of the book Joan of Arc and the Towns She Passed Through – Volume I, The Loire Valley, the Royal Fortress of Chinon is presenting an exhibition dedicated to the watercolours of the painter Jean Chen.

This artist from Bourges immerses us in Touraine during the time of Joan of Arc through some thirty works. He offers us his documented vision of the town of Chinon as it might have appeared to the Maid in the 15th century.
