Extract from the Catalan Atlas
The Catalan Atlas (1375), attributed to Abraham Cresques, is a collection of illuminated maps, bound like a book. Intended for the King of France, it offered him an overview of the entire known world at that time. These maps combine geographical, political and economic information with ancient legends and the "wonders" of distant Asia whose sources come from medieval tales, such as Marco Polo's Devisement du Monde.
